Built to spec

Sized for the bylaw, not around it.

Calgary limits what you can put on public land. Every sign we print is produced to those limits, so a placement can’t be pulled for being oversized — and your spend doesn’t end up in a City truck.

Larger formats are allowed on private property under the Land Use Bylaw. When a client wants a bigger sign, that is the route we use — with the owner’s written consent.

Placement permit

Commercial signage on City land needs a valid permit. ScopeX applies, holds the permit, and tracks the expiry so your placements never lapse.

Handled
Why the size matters

An oversized sign on public land is the fastest way to lose a placement. Printing to the limit up front means the sign stays in the ground, keeps working, and doesn’t cost you a reprint.

Where signs go

All four quadrants. Approved spots only.

We cover NW, NE, SW and SE. Within each quadrant, placements are limited to areas where the City permits commercial temporary signs — and your target neighbourhoods are chosen from that list, not from a map with pins thrown at it.

NWNORTHWEST

Established residential pockets and arterial approaches feeding the north communities.

NENORTHEAST

High-traffic corridors and newer family neighbourhoods with strong drive-by volume.

SWSOUTHWEST

Dense established areas — the strongest performer for most home-service trades.

SESOUTHEAST

Fast-growing communities where new homeowners are actively hiring trades.

Permitted areas only

Placements go in locations where the City allows commercial temporary signage — never wherever there happens to be grass.

Clear of sightlines

Set back from intersections, driveways, crosswalks, and traffic control devices so a sign is never a hazard.

Permit on file first

Nothing goes in the ground before the placement is approved and the permit is in hand.

No medians or boulevards where prohibited

Restricted road allowances, park land, and prohibited zones are off the list — permanently.

No private property without consent

If a placement is on private land, we have the owner’s written permission on file before install.

Programs & pricing

Two programs. One goal.

Both include a one-time setup fee of $33/sign that covers printing — non-refundable, because your signs go to print immediately. Month-to-month after that, cancel any time following your first month.

Deployment cycle

How a sign gets in the ground.

Same order, every month. The permit comes first — everything else follows it.

01Zone selection & permit

We pick approved placement areas that match your service radius, then secure the permit — before a single sign is printed.

FAQ

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

Everything worth knowing before you get started.

Are the signs placed on public or private property?
Both, depending on the placement. On public property we place only in areas where the City permits commercial temporary signage, within the size limits — 0.6 m² sign face and 0.92 m overall height — and with a valid permit on file. On private property, larger formats are allowed under the Land Use Bylaw, and we get the owner’s written consent before anything is installed. We do not place signs in prohibited zones or restricted road allowances.
Who handles the permits?
ScopeX does. We apply for the placement permit, hold it, and track the expiry so your signs never sit in the ground on a lapsed approval. Permit handling is included in your monthly management fee — there is no separate charge.
How big are the signs?
Our standard is 24×36 in, which works out to a 0.56 m² face — comfortably inside the 0.6 m² cap for public property. Total height from grade stays at or under 0.92 m. If you want something larger, we place it on private property instead, with consent.
How quickly will my signs be deployed?
Once your setup fee is paid, the program is confirmed, and the placement permit is secured, signs typically go to print within 24 hours and are deployed within 48 hours of printing. Sign-up to signs in the ground is usually 3–5 business days.
Which neighbourhoods will my signs be placed in?
ScopeX covers all four Calgary quadrants — NW, SW, SE and NE. During onboarding, Gergo works with you to pick target areas based on your business type and service radius, drawn from the list of locations where placement is actually permitted. Signs rotate regularly to spread reach across those zones.
What’s the difference between H-Stake and Metal Frame signs?
H-Stake signs are corrugated plastic on wire stakes — you own them from day one, they cost less, and they are ideal for testing. Metal Frame signs are heavy-duty aluminum-framed signs that ScopeX owns and maintains, with a stronger street presence and full replacement coverage every month. Most clients start with H-Stakes, prove the results, then scale up.
Why is the setup fee non-refundable?
It covers the cost of printing your signs, which happens immediately when you sign up. Your signs are custom-printed with your branding, so that cost is incurred right away. It is not a deposit or a lock-in fee — it is a real print cost, and it also keeps the program from being abused.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. Both programs are month-to-month with no long-term commitment. Cancel any time after your first month. On the H-Stake program you keep your signs when you cancel, since you own them. Give Gergo a heads-up and your next billing cycle will not be charged.
What happens if my signs get stolen or damaged?
Metal Frame clients have full replacement coverage every month — broken signs are replaced in the same neighbourhood, stolen signs in a new one. H-Stake clients do not have replacement coverage; lost or damaged signs are replaced at $33/sign. This is the main reason clients upgrade to Metal Frames.
What if a sign gets removed by the City?
It should not happen — that is the whole point of printing to spec and placing on permit. If it does, Metal Frame clients have the sign replaced under their coverage at no charge. H-Stake clients replace at cost, and we relocate the placement to a different approved area.
Do I need to provide my own sign design?
You will need to provide artwork or branding. If you already have a logo and brand colours, ScopeX can lay out the sign for you. If you need a design from scratch, reach out to Gergo and we will cover design options as part of onboarding.
How many signs should I start with?
Most new clients start with 10–20 H-Stake signs to test results before scaling. That is enough geographic coverage to generate meaningful call volume while keeping the initial spend low. Once you see which areas convert, scale up with confidence. Use the calculator above for exact costs at any quantity.
What types of businesses does this work best for?
It works exceptionally well for home service businesses — landscaping, roofing, cleaning, HVAC, painting, renovation, pest control, moving, and similar trades. Any business where homeowners are the customer and local visibility drives inbound calls.
Can I run both programs at the same time?
Absolutely. Many clients run a hybrid program — H-Stakes in newer test zones, Metal Frames in proven high-converting areas. Use the calculator to build the exact mix and see the combined setup fee and monthly total in real time.
What does “rotation” mean?
ScopeX periodically moves your signs to different approved areas within your target zones. It keeps your brand fresh, prevents sign fatigue on any single street, and expands total reach over time. Rotation is part of ongoing monthly management — you do not need to do anything.
How does monthly billing work?
After the one-time setup fee, you are billed monthly. That covers placement management, permits, neighbourhood rotation, and — for Metal Frame clients — full replacement coverage. Billing continues on a rolling monthly basis until you cancel. Metal Frame clients: billing continues during any 1–2 week rotation gap.
What if I want to own my Metal Frames instead of renting?
Available on larger programs. You can purchase frames outright at $190/frame plus $33/sign for printing, with placement then managed at H-Stake monthly rates. If you own the frames, replacement coverage is not included — damaged or stolen frames are your responsibility. Contact Gergo for a custom quote.
How do I get started?
Use the program calculator above to build your sign mix and see your costs, then reach out to Gergo — call or text 403-408-6389 or use the contact form. Gergo confirms your placement areas, collects your design, and gets your signs to print fast.
